For White Cube’s Hong Kong exhibition The Lingering Departure, I photographed and filmed Ethiopian painter Tesfaye Urgessa in Nürtingen, Germany. The project combined photography of the artist and his work with a scripted on-camera interview, shot as DoP. Urgessa, the first artist to represent Ethiopia at the Venice Biennale, paints densely populated scenes of migration, family and community. The result is a close look at the artist behind the paintings.
